The athletics ground of Sainik School Goalpara came alive with the spirit of sportsmanship, discipline and youthful energy as the school proudly hosted the grand opening ceremony of the All India Sainik Schools National Games (Group “E”) for the Session 2026-27 on 31 Aug 2026, marking the commencement of a vibrant five-day sporting event that will be culminated on 04 September 2026.
Col Dheeraj Kumar Vishwakarma, Principal, graced the opening ceremony as the Chief Guest. Declaring the meet open, Col Vishwakarma emphasised the role of Sainik Schools in nurturing young minds through a balanced emphasis on academics, character, leadership and physical fitness. The officer encouraged the cadets to compete with determination and confidence while maintaining the true spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
The opening ceremony featured an impressive march past by the smartly turned-out cadets of the participating teams in perfect synchronisation, which was followed by administration of oath to both the players and the match officials, reaffirming their commitment to integrity and excellence. Another highlight of the ceremony was a cultural extravaganza presented by the participating schools, celebrating the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the North-Eastern region.
The prestigious event will witness enthusiastic participation from about 300 cadets from six different Sainik Schools of the North-Eastern region i.e. Sainik School Imphal (Manipur), Sainik School Punglwa (Nagaland), Sainik School Chhingchhip (Mizoram), Sainik School East Siang, Sainik School Goalpara (Assam) and a newly affiliated Sainik School under PPP Model, namely North-East Military School, Bijni (Assam). The mega event features an exciting array of sporting disciplines, including Basketball (Boys & Girls U-17), Volleyball (Boys U-17) and Athletics (Boys & Girls), along with two co-curricular events i.e. English Debate and Quiz competitions.
The closing ceremony of the event is scheduled on 04 September 2026, during which, the winners in different categories will be awarded trophies, medals and certificates. The top performers from this Group Meet will earn the honour of representing Group “E” in the forthcoming All India Sainik Schools National Games 2026 to be held at Sainik School Bijapur (Karnataka) in November 2026.
